DAY 3 : Madurai - Kumbakonam
Finish your breakfast and have a short drive to visit Pazhamudhirsolai Murugan Temple, which is 5th in the list. It is also known by the name Solaimalai Murugan Temple. This is a holy shrine venerated by the Skanda purana and by Nakkeerarโs Thirumurugatrupadai of the Sangam period. A natural spring called Noopura Gangai, with a temple dedicated to Rakkayi Amman, is located at the top of the hill. Pilgrims coming to the Pazhamudircholai temple take a dip in this small, sacred spring that is said to have originated from the anklet of lord Vishnu. The water of this spring is sweet in nature and has medicinal values.
Continue your drive to Kumbakonam. Enroute stop and visit Swamimalai Murugan temple, which holds the 4th position in the list. The temple is located on the banks of the river Cauvery. The temple is built on an artificial hillock of about sixty feet height with sixty beautifully laid stone steps representing the Hindu cycle of sixty years leading to the Lord.
