Tirupattur Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple - Hindu Temple

It is rarely possible to find someone who doesn't believe in his/her fate and the ruling of God. In Hindu mythology, Brahma is considered as the God for the creation of living beings and deciding their life fate. Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple at Tirupattur is known as the place that has changed the fate of Brahma who created and wrote our fate. Presiding deity of this temple is in the form of a self manifested lingam. Since lord Shiva absolved Brahma for his sins, he is known as Brahmapureeswarar here. Mythological references establish lord Brahmaโ€™s overwhelming pride as the creator of the Universe. It was a thought for him that he was prevailing than lord Shiva, since he had the supremacy of creation. This sense of pride provoked lord Shiva to destroy lord Brahmaโ€™s fifth head and also cursed him that he would not have the power of creation any more. After losing his dominance, lord Brahma realized his mistake since his privileged duty of creation was affected and so worshipped lord Shiva at various places.

During his pilgrimage, lord Brahma happened to visit this place and worshipped Shiva lingam under a Magizham tree with water from the nearby tank, which is now called Brahma Theertham. He also installed 12 lingams around in this place and worshipped countless periods. Being convinced by Brahma's prayers, lord Shiva, on Devi Parvathyโ€™s appeal, gave him darshan under the Magizham tree and liberated him from his curse. So then, he could start his privileged duty of creation again. Hence Lord Shiva is called Brahmapureeswarar here. Also, Devi Parvati gave back Brahma all his sheen and thatโ€™s why the Devi called Brahma Sampath Gowri. Lord Shiva also blessed Brahma that he would have a separate shrine at this temple. Since Brahma himself had his destiny rewritten here, it is a belief that he would rewrite the destiny of his devotees visiting this temple. The deity of lord Brahma is a majestic 6 feet high fully decorated with Turmeric. Lord Brahma is in a meditative pose sitting on a lotus. The location of the temple is deep into the countryside of Trichy, which is an added attraction.
