Namakkal Tourism Places

Namakkal district is categorized under the โ€˜Kongu Naduโ€™ region, which saw hot battles between the Pallavas and the Pandyan emperors. It is a historic town with reference back to at least the 7th century. After the struggle with all the indigenous rulers here, the Hoysalas rose to power and had the control until the 14th century, followed by Vijayanagar empire until 1565 AD. They were followed by the Madurai Nayakas in 1623 AD. The Namakkal fort is reported to have been built by one โ€˜Ramachandra Nayakarโ€™ at that time. Around 1635 AD was the time, the region came under Muslim Sultanates of Bijapur and Golconda. Mysore Maharajas, the Marattas also took some time to dominate here when Hyder Ali came to power about the year 1750 AD. During this period, it was a history of power struggle between Hyder Ali, and later Tipu Sultan, with the British. Namakkal district is noted for truck and lorry external body building throughout India, which were started after the independence. Finished trucks and rig units are exported to foreign countries from here. Most of the people of this region are engaged in this activity. The district is also known for its business in poultry and dairy industries. It should be noted that Namakkal district alone produces about 65% of the egg output of Tamil Nadu.





Narasimha Swamy Temple | Anjaneyar Temple

Constructed in the Dravidian style of rock cut architecture, this temple is located exactly in the town and possibly the only sightseeing around. Adhiyamaans of the 7th Century and Madurai Nayaks made huge contributions for the birth of these temples. The legend of the temple is associated with lord Narasimha, one of the incarnations of lord Vishnu. The temple is believed to be built during the 8th century by the Pandya kings....

Tiruchengode Arthanareeswarar Temple

According to the available inscriptions, this Shiva temple must have been built around 2000 years ago. As per the legend, there arose a heated argument between Adiseshan (the serpent on whom lord Vishnu rests) and Vayu (the lord of the winds) to test their superiority. They both chose mount Meru (mythological mountain) to showcase their strength. At that time, Adiseshan could not resist Vayu's severe wind to hold that mountain....

Kolli Hills

A pristine mountain range on the eastern ghats in an ever-so-pleasant altitude ranging from 1000 to 1300 meters above sea level, Kolli hills is a destination offbeat and worth the effort. The hill range is relatively untouched by human activities and thereby retaining its natural beauty. Much of the charm of this hill station still remains a mystery.
