Promenade Beach also known as Pondicherry Beach (Rock Beach)
A stretch starting from War memorial till Duplex park, Promenade Beach is a 1.2 kilometer long marine drive. It is a lane where almost all the tourists and the locals wish to spend the evenings. Its name came from being the promenade of the French heritage part of the town. Long walks and jogging are the activities here, so grab a pal and be sure to see everything this stretch offers. One can relax or take a stroll at any time of the day, though the best time would be early in the mornings and late evenings when the road is closed for vehicular traffic. This makes it easy for the people, especially with the kids to enjoy the beach without pollution and fear of vehicles. Early in the morning, health juice vendors occupy this region and in the evening, this effect is reversed with delectable junk foods to tickle your taste buds. Also, a lot of restaurants of different price ranges cater to different walks of people. On the seafront, there are several landmarks - the cold and dispassionate war memorial throbbing with the memory of lost dreams, the inspiring Joan of Arc's statue, the heritage town hall, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the statue of Dupleix, the old Lighthouse, the remains of the old pier and customs house, all reveal the splendours of a bygone era. Hence, all these features make the Promenade Beach a massive hit among the travellers looking for some escape from the regular work.
