Thiruvalluvar Statue - Landmark of Kanyakumari
Thiruvallur is an accomplished writer, who gave the life lesson in his poem of 2 stanzas as โThirukkuralโ, a classic Tamil language text. In his memory, the work for his statue was started in 1990 and continued till 1999, during the year in which the work finally got completed. The statue stands at a height of 133 feet upon a 38 feet pedestal. The sky-high statue amid the deep ocean gives a spiritual atmosphere of pleasure and prosperity to be enjoyed with a strong base of virtue. The entire statue weighs 14 million pounds. The statue stands 400 meters from the coastline of Kanyakumari on a small island rock which can be reached by a short ferry ride.
