Gol Gumbaz Archaeological Museum, Bijapur
Though an ordinary building appears from outside, the Archaeological Museum of Bijapur is an intriguing place from indoors. It is located within the Gol Gumbaz complex. It has a roof that is carved with attractive geometrical patterns of the ancient times. There are a total of six galleries in the building. The first gallery narrates the earliest human settlements in Bijapur and showcases the monolithic-era tools and skeleton of the early man. The second and third galleries are dedicated to the discoveries like the weaponry, armor, coins, sculptures etc, that were found during the excavations.
All discoveries belong to the different periods that indicate Bijapur served as a ruling throne to various dynasties. The fourth and fifth galleries focus on the personal items and utensils that belonged to the members of the royal clan. These galleries have a tight security because some precious jewels and utensils made up of precious metals are displayed here. The sixth gallery exhibits the belongings of the Adil Shahi dynasty. It is the most amazing gallery that houses numerous miniature paintings and other items like weaponry and jewelry. A visit to this museum will definitely increase the knowledge about the many things related to Chalukyas sculpture and Adil Shahi lifestyle.
