Cubbon Park, Bangalore - officially called Sri Chamarajendra Park

An oasis of green amidst a buzzing urbanscape, Cubbon Park is a scenic tourist attraction and acts as the ‘lungs’ of Bangalore city with more than 6000 trees. The park was originally created in 1870 by Major General Richard Sankey, the then Chief engineer of the Mysore State and named after Sir Mark Cubbon, who served for the longest period as the commissioner. In 300 acres of land, the park has many buildings within its premises as it is located in the central administrative area of the city. Government Museum, Art Gallery, YMCA, Aquarium, City Central Library, High Court Buildings, State Youth Centre- Yuvanika, Jawahar BalBhavan, Century Club, Press Club, the Venkatappa Art Gallery, Cheshire Dyer Memorial Hall etc are some of the official buildings in the park.


There are beautifully carved statues of various prominent personalities adorning every corner of the park. The trees / plants in the park are found to be around 68 genera and 96 species. For children and train lovers, there is a toy train option within the park. Runs in biofuel, the train ride is nothing short of its history dating back since the inauguration of the park. The train option is not available on Thursdays. Bangalore aquarium, also known as Government Aquarium, consists of 3 floors offering a wide variety of exotic and indigenous species of fish which have been kept in a natural habitat. There is a museum within the park presenting a glimpse of the bygone era such as stone sculptures, bronze materials, traditional paintings, wooden carvings, musical instruments, coins, etc. This park is a thriving ecosystem to spend healthy time around.

Cubbon Park in Bangalore is open from 6 AM to 6 PM. Mondays and the second Tuesday of the month are holidays.
