INS Chapal Warship Museum - Karwar

INS Chapal (K94) is a real-life warship served in the Indian Navy during World War II and in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Today, it stands as a museum that depicts the lives of sailors, which is one among the 3 of that type in India. It also enables the visitors to understand how a ship looks from the inside. This ship played a key role in the victory of India by blocking the sea trade route between India and Pakistan. The warship bombarded Karachi, an important commercial town of Pakistan. In view of the Naval Base being set up in Karwar, the Defence Ministry handed over the missile boat to the district administration in 2006. The 245 ton ship has a length of 38 metres, beam of 7.5 metres and speed of 37 knots. The ship offers a 20 minutes video gallery about the war and life of soldiers. There are mannequins dressed as captain, doctors, sailors and replicas of the missiles used those days are also on display inside the museum. It would be a great experience to come close to the nationโ€™s warship.
