Kapu Beach - Mornings and evenings are most preferable time
It is said that one who looks at the sea turns one's back on the misfortunes of the world and somehow one resigns oneself to them. If one has to experience this blissful feeling, this Kapu beach is the perfect place. The small town of Kapu or Kaup is located very close to Udupi on the National highway of Konkan coast. Because of the greenery surrounding the beach, locals make a quick weekend trip away from Udupi and Mangalore cities. The beach is pristine white neatly maintained. Mornings and evenings are most preferable times for the cool invigorating sea breeze. The place is not very well-crowded and one can enjoy the stay on the beach in a quiet atmosphere.
It is famously known to house an old lighthouse that was built in 1901. It opens from 4 to 6 PM officially but closing time is extended up to 06:30 PM. It offers a delightful view of the entire beach and seashore. The stairs get steeper and steeper as you ascend. At the last portion, there is a room with wooden steps like a ladder. It is a balcony from which one can get another view of the beach. You are allowed for just a few minutes before the ticket checker starts asking people to vacate space for more who are waiting. Ruins of Jain Basadis (temples) as well as the Hindu temples of Goddess Kali can be found across the stretch of the beach.
