KR Market in Bangalore - Also called Krishna Rajendra Market, City Market and Flower Market
A market known by many names, Krishna Rajendra Market, KR Market, the City Market and the Flower Market, this market is named after Krishna Rajendra Wodeyar, a popular ruler of Mysore. One of the largest wholesale flower markets in Asia, this is the place for the people who are overwhelmed and mesmerized with the flowers. Presenting the photographers for multiple and versatile photo opportunities, it is one of the best places to capture both crowds and a riot of colors. One can witness the loops of flowers, the color of petals, hands darting through flowers and meandering haggling voices and so on. The place was once a battleground for the rulers of Mysore, then converted into a flower market by the British time.
As a full-fledged market, a three storey concrete building was erected in 1990. The flowers and vegetables are arranged on the ground floor, machine tools & other accessories on the first floor and dry goods on the second ground floor. The market is a mix of intensity of haggling voices as well as the earthy fragrance of flowers filling up the nostrils. Some of the flower varieties in show here are common rose, garlands, marigold, Dutch rose, Asiatic lily, blue daisy, yellow daisy, chrysanthemums, orchid, xanadu, ivy leaves, red dracena, China leaves etc. The pretty hues of flowers against the dawn and sky look stunning. Though the market is open throughout the day, the advisable time for the visitors will be the early mornings, before they are active with the business.
