Kudroli (Gokarnath) Gokarnanatheshwara Temple

Kudroli (Gokarnath) Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, this Shiva temple at Kudroli was laid foundation in 1912 by Sri Narayana Guru, a social reformer and saint of Kerala. The Billava Community was traditionally suppressed by the upper caste treating them as โ€˜untouchablesโ€™ and they were not allowed to enter the temples at Mangalore during the 18th century. This issue was raised to Sri Narayana Guru, who was regarded as the uplifter of the downtrodden. Sahukar Koragappa, a prominent leader of that community had a meeting with the Guru in 1908. The delegation appraised Sri Narayana Guru about the problems faced by the community.

Sri Narayana Guru visited Mangalore on invitation from this delegation and himself selected this Kudroli to build a temple. The heritage edifice is a landmark for those who believe in one God. At the entrance, we are welcomed by the two idols of elephants on each side. A marble statue of Narayana Guru was erected in the entrance of the temple and a crown studded with precious gems was offered by the devotees. The vast temple premises has the sculptures of various other Hindu Gods. Tourists of all castes, communities & religions are allowed to visit the shrine.
