Kukke Subrahmanya Temple - Lord Muruga

Located amidst the natureโ€™s lap, this Kukke Subrahmanya Temple is located in Subrahmanya village, dedicated to Lord Muruga. The temple is surrounded by the glories of nature on all sides overlooked by Kumara Parvatha hill. Shesha Parvatha, a mountain shaped like a six-headed serpent, adjacent to Kumara Parvatha seems to protect the temple, geographically. The temple is considered as the ultimate place to attain relief from any kind of 'naga doshas'. According to legends, Lord Muruga reached here with his brother Ganesh and a few others after having killed the demons Tharaka and Soorapadma. They were received by the divine soul Indra and he requested the Muruga to marry his daughter Devasena.

The compliment was accepted by Lord Muruga and the marriage took place with the blessings of all the Gods. It is also mentioned that Vasuki, the king of serpents is an ardent devotee of Lord Muruga. Vasuki did severe penance towards Lord Muruga in this hill to safeguard himself from the attack of holy eagle Garuda, who is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Vasuki requested the Lord to stay along with him permanently here. From that time, it is believed that the Lord has his spiritual presence in this shrine along with his wife Devasena and Vasuki. One has to come across Kumaradhara river to reach this temple. Pilgrims prefer having a dip in this river before entering the temple. Special rituals for the remedy from sarpa doshas can be booked online through the templeโ€™s official website.
