Mananchira Square - Beautiful Park

Known for its musical fountains and open air theatre, Mananchira Square is a beautiful park located in the heart of the town. This beautiful park once used to be a palace tank of the last Zamorin king โ€˜Vikramaโ€™, who designed it in the 14th century to meet the water requirement of the town. The tank has been preserved almost in its original form and continues to supply water to the city. It is named after Mahadevan Samoothiri, the former ruler of Kozhikode. It was earlier known as Manavedanchira (pond) and later as Mananchira. It has a traditional architectural design kept as a reminiscent of the ancient times. The square is surrounded by temples, churches, mosques and several traditional houses. The whole square is encircled by a laterite sculpted wall and the area is carpeted with green grass, artificial stream, trees, plants, and a musical fountain. Taking long walks in the midst of nature is quite calming. It is a great place for children's playtime.
