Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum - Brainchild of MN Gowri
Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum is the first of its kind in India, located close to the Chamundi Hills. This Sand museum is the brainchild of MN Gowri, one of the leading sand sculptors of India. A bachelor in fine arts, Gowri, took 4 months of hard work and dedication to create this. This eco-friendly attraction established over a spread of lush greenery in an area of 13500 sq ft, was inaugurated in 2014. The museum displays around 150 sculptures of sand in 16 different themes ranging from heritage, wildlife, culture, fairy tales from different religious epice. More than 115 truckloads of sand have been used to make them. They were created solely with sand, water and a small amount of glue.
A 15 feet high sand statue of Lord Ganesh that is kept at the entrance is a fine introduction of the potential inside the museum. These sculptures are carefully protected from sun and rain. An excellent example of creative brilliance, the sand sculpture museum offers a creative setting with artistic works. Intricate carvings on the sand, delicateness of the sculptures make it a place worth visiting. These sand sculptures captivate every visitor with their entrancing beauty. According to Gowri, the biggest challenge is protecting the sculptures from insects and rodents, despite taking all precautionary measures and proper maintenance.
