Neelimala View Point - Meenmutty Waterfalls

The cascading Meenmutty Waterfalls gushing across the verdant greenery of Wayanad is the sight that awaits at the Neelimala View Point. The waterfall is occasionally overshadowed with mists which not only adds to its milky contrast, but instils a feeling of being solitary in the mountains. This is another spot for trekking with coffee plantations on either side of the trail and patches of ginger and areca nut plantations further ahead. The fun and experience begins at the point where one can either choose a Jeep or take a soft trek uphill. Thanks to the rough and dangerous steep, the jeep ride is more like a roller coaster.

On the other hand, the walk uphill is a different experience altogether. One can feel the ruggedness of the road uphill through coffee plantations and a short distance though forest area. Whether it be jeep or trek, there is a short walk from the face of the mountain along a thin narrow footpath with views all around. While trekking, the route is filled with the alluring aroma of the coffee berries and the leaves. Along with the plantations, the landscape is also dotted with small bushes of purple flower plants where one can see sun birds and other species of colorful small birds. After covering the first part of the trail which is about half a kilometer, the trek path starts getting narrower and at one point it slopes down before climbing up again.

Once again, the scenery along the path gets changed, with tall wild grasses including the lemon grass replacing the earlier vegetations. Further up the trek, one can get the picturesque view of the mountain folds of the Western Ghats on the left side and a hill slope covered with lush green vegetation on the right. This point is known as the Neelimala view point. Fresh cool breeze blowing here is the finest reward for the trek. The mesmerizing view of the mist covered waterfall will surely energize us after a tiring walk to this point. Trekkers can camp at this place and explore the other exciting trails at this viewpoint.
