Sakrebailu Elephant Camp (Sakrebyle Elephant Camp)
The elephants hold an important place in the history of India, starting from worshipping them as God (Ganesh) till their prominence in the rituals of most of the temples. Sakrebailu is a small village on the banks of Tunga river, at the outskirts of Shimoga town in some 15 km. Sakrebailu Elephant Camp (Sakrebyle Elephant Camp) is an eco-tourism centre with captive elephants as the centre of attraction. Elephants here are maintained by trained mahouts. The camp offers the visitors to witness the elephants as close as possible and understand their daily morning activities. Seeing elephants in large numbers to have baths at a time is something funny and majestic. Visitors can feed them the food prepared there by the camp authorities. Elephants, who need special attention mentally / physically all over from Karnataka are directed here to get disciplined. Elephant riding is allowed to get into the camp which is a fun ride, especially for the kids. Trekking and overnight stay there can be possible through the forest department lodges. Visitors are advised not to disturb their natural habitat.
