Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum - Must visit place for Students

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, as the name indicates, this is a must visit place for enthusiasts of science and technology, especially the students. Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was an elegant Indian civil engineer for the 19th Diwan of Mysore and later handled a lot of construction works before Indiaโ€™s independence. Spread in a 74000 sq ft area around the famous Cubbon Park, the museum was dedicated to his name and was inaugurated by the first prime minister of India Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962.


At present, the centre has 9 exhibition halls consisting of exhibits of a steam engine, aeroplanes, motor power etc, a virtual gaming zone, a tiny planetarium and a 3D visual display centre for recreation. The engine hall explains the mechanics involved behind the functioning of different machinery and demonstrates the mechanism behind conservation of energy. Various machinery parts of different automobiles are on display here. How things work gallery is a mini visual representation of a demonstration of pulleys, levers, inclined planes, different types of levers etc. Electro technical gallery portrays exhibits functioning on properties of electricity, electronics and communication.


There is a separate gallery for the human achievements in space and beyond. Studies related to biotechnology are elaborated in a separate gallery. There is a corridor housing a moving replica of Spinosaurus- a spine lizard dinosaur of the gone era. It would be enjoyed most by the kids. There is a fun gallery of various games and puzzles based on the principles of fluids, math and other scientific phenomena. A replica of the Wright brothersโ€™ aircraft, a flight simulator, a moving dinosaur, a giant piano that allows children to dance over it, a pin-wall where children can make impressions of their body are the other highlights of the museum.
